Color My Horse by Bev Pettersen
Review by Jeanette
Let me first say that I absolutely loved Color my Horse by Bev Patterson. Jessica Boone, a professional skier, loses her place on the team when an accident leaves her with a serious knee injury. She is told she will be unable to compete again. Her grandfather pressures her into joining his company, but agrees to give Jessica the chance to win seed money for her own business if she is able to make it through the Breeder’s Cup as a worker at the tracks. Her eagerness to prove herself is a prominent theme in the novel.
I enjoyed learning about horse racing through Jessica’s eyes. Bev gave just enough of a taste for the stables that I learned quite a bit about horse racing and what goes on behind the scenes while still remaining firmly involved in the story. I found the setting fascinating and the characters lively. I loved watching the growing relationship between Jessica and Mark and her interaction with Buddy, one of the race horses.
The novel was a page turner with ever-mounting tension. There were a few heart-wrenching moments and a great finish.
5 stars!
