Excuse Me, My Brains Have Stepped Out by Pandora Poikilos
Review by Kate
This is the first book that I have read by Pandora Poikilos. I have a feeling though that “Excuse Me, My Brains Have Stepped Out” is the type of book that readers will either like or not like… I loved it!
Each chapter is based around a letter from the lead character Anya to her father. At the beginning it isn’t clear where her father is, at first I thought that he was someone that Anya didn’t have anything to do with, it was only towards the ¾ mark of the book that I begun to wonder if he had passed away. The final chapter gives the answers and is an emotional end to the book.
I found the life lessons in this book I could relate to on a high level. I felt that they reached out to me and spoke to me about issues that I have faced personally with a different condition. It is comforting, in a weird way, to know that there are other people who have had to deal with similar issues and also that they have been put down on paper.
I feel that the people who pick up this book and give it a chance like I have done will either learn something or feel comforted in the knowledge there are people who have suffered too.
Poikilos is writing a follow up to this book, Frequent Traveller, which should be out towards the later part of 2011. After reading “Excuse Me, My Brains Have Stepped Out” I can’t wait for Pandora’s second book.
I give Excuse Me, My Brains Have Stepped Out a definite 5/5
