Hey, guys. Nightmare Keme is one of my favorite characters and I’m really excited for you to meet him. LOL! He’s quite the character. He’s also a difficult man to track down. When I said, “I want to write a story about Nightmare Keme,” I believe his exact words were, “Like Hell you are!”
LOL! The reluctant characters are sometimes my favorite.
Okay, so here we are in the nightmare realm. *grins mischievously* People don’t normally get the chance to just walk in uninvited. All around us are gray bubbles, some spiky, some fuzzy (I think it looks like mold, personally), but these are the nightmare bubbles. When you’re having a nightmare, you’re actually right here. Seems strange, I know, but just wait until you’re inside.
But we’re not going inside one today. Oh no. These bubbles go on and on forever in all directions. Up, down, front, back, and to either side. I, personally, have no idea how the nightmares keep them all straight. I’m fairly certain that some the dreamers get lost or forgotten in these things, but…I’ve been informed that never happens. *eyes wide*
Over here, on the far reaches of..I have no idea where, is Keme’s area. Each nightmare has their own space, which is cool. Keme’s is a cave. Oh, be careful. He’s not very tidy. Bear skin rugs all over the place, low tables, leather pillows along the walls. Yeah. It’s very…well, male. *snorting chuckle*
And over here, as promised is Nightmare Keme. Doesn’t he look kinda dreamy all tall and dark, with the long black hair and those big dark eyes. That are now glaring at us? Okay. At me.
Hey, Keme.
Silence.
Remember, you promised I could introduce you.
He crosses his arms over his chest and stares down at me.
*rolling eyes* Apparently, I forgot to make him promise to talk. Oh, these nightmares. They’re such sticklers for details. Come on, Keme. It’s going to be difficult as hell to write an entire book if you don’t talk.
“And if I decide not to speak at all?”
*blinks and stares around cave room thoughtfully* I’ll get creative.
He sighs and loosens up. “What do I have to do in order to get you to leave?”
*grins* Answer a few questions.
“Like?”
Huh. Like, how did you get started in being a nightmare?
His eyes fill with shadows and his cheeks sink, but he remains quiet.
Interesting. Okay, so, let’s start small. What is it about your job you enjoy the most?
He tips his head to the side and searches a spot above your head. “I enjoy helping people.”
Really. You?
The look he gives me makes me want to disappear under the bear skin floor. “I believe, Frankie, you are out of time. I have dreamers that need to be returned and you have deadlines to meet.”
And like that, he just walks out and leaves us to find our own way back. *clucks tongue and watches him disappear* Well, as you can see, his book is going to be interesting. Challenging, yes. Awesome.
Well, I hope you enjoyed the ever so brief meeting with Nightmare Keme. You’ll see more of him in The Dustman and later in the fall, The Nightmare.
