Castle Macabre’s “Season Of The Witch”

Our good friend Michelle is hosting an amazing “witchy” month of guest posts and competitions in October! Here is what she had to say about the event…

October brings Castle Macabre’s Season of the Witch. I’ll be posting full details soon, but here’s a little preview. I’ll be looking for guest posts from authors and/or bloggers and if any authors want to donate a book for a spotlight/guest post/giveaway, please let me know. The focus is going to be witches, but anything scary is game! I will be focusing my reading in October on witch related books and I would love for people to join me. And of course, there will be a giveaway. Stay tuned for details!

We are really looking forward to this one and we hope you will join us and Michelle at Castle Macabre

FrightFall Read-a-Thon

We love the Read-A-Thon’s that Seasons Of Reading put on and they have another brilliant one planned for October, which we will be proud to be a part of.

The sign up post is up on Seasons Of Reading and you can sign upNOW!! Here is what Michelle has written about this Read-A-Thon…

“It’s here! The official sign up for the FrightFall Read-a-Thon! A week long fest of scary reading (well, at least one scary book anyway). All you have to do to participate is read at least one horror/scary book. For the faint-hearted among you, it can be a spooky mystery, a scary thriller, or something classically gothic. This time I’m allowing children’s books for those of you who have kids…with one condition…five picture books equal one novel. Sound fair? Middle grade novels can count as one book. I will not be hosting any mini-challenges, as we learned from my last two read-a-thons, focusing on the reading rocks. However, if anyone else would like to host a mini-challenge, you are more than welcome. Of course, there will be a big giveaway at the end. And we will have a few scheduled Twitter chats again (and perhaps some more reading sprints). Our twitter hashtag is#FrightFall.

Sign up in the linky. You do not have to do a post now, unless you want to help spread the word (hint, hint…) If you don’t have a blog, use Facebook, Twitter or Goodreads. Having a blog is not required. Be sure to grab the button at the top of this post. (Don’t forget that this is just the sign-up linky. There will be starting line sign-in and wrap-up linkies during the read-a-thon and doing both is required to be eligible for the giveaway).

I am looking for prize donations so if anyone would like to contribute, let me know. Authors, this is a great way to promote your book! Email me–truebookaddictATgmailDOTcom”

We hope to see you there!!

BBTT 28th August: On Casting The Memory of Roses – A Guest Post by Blair McDowell

We are really honoured to be joined today by Blair McDowell for today’s BBTT (Bewitching Book Tour Tuesdays). Blair took time out of her busy schedule to share with her view on casting The Memory Of Roses. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

Here is an extract from the guest post:

“A friend of mine is a film editor. She has worked on a number of major films, including one of my all-time favorites, Under the Tuscan Sun.

She kindly offered to read my manuscript and make suggestions on The Memory of Roses at the point where I was readying it for submission to publishers. She was helpful in a number of ways, principally in helping me to thinking visually, rather than only in words.

BTS Book Tour: Who to Watch For – A Guest Post by Danica Avet

Danica Avet recently took the time out of her busy schedule to share with us some characters we should look out for. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Here is an excerpt:

“As a reader, I’m probably like most of y’all. When I like a story, get to know the characters and world in a series, I want to know who’s next. I’m not the person who’ll read excerpts of every upcoming book because I like to be surprised, but I will read the blurbs and search message boards to find out who the next hero and heroine is. So if you’ve read Primal Song, you’re probably wondering the same thing. If you haven’t read it, you should really get on that.”

Paper Crane Book Tours: The Reporter From Marridon – An Excerpt by Michelle Franklin

Michelle Franklin recently took the time out of her busy schedule to share with us an excerpt from The Reporter From Marridon. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Here is an excerpt:

“Night soon came to the capital. The din of the marketplace continued in a subdued murmur, the song and raillery from the taverns became more pervasive, the dulcet scents of hardy suppers wafted from the open windows of houses, and the reporter was rapt in deliberation as to whether he should brave the horrors and joviality of a Frewyn inn or sleep within the auspices of the Church, preying upon their hospitality for a clean bed, warm food and protection from the heathens of the foreign capital. His choice, however, was made for him, as he had denied the service that the docksmaster was so good as to point out to him, and as Mureadh had kindly reminded him: only Frewyn coins would be accepted in Frewyn. There were exceptions made in the trade ports of Farriage, but as Farriage was at least three hours north by foot, he must settle for remaining in the capital.

Here is an excerpt from the Sketches from Skyosa guest post…

“Sykosa uses some elaborate set pieces in order to establish the identity of the characters’ lives. Below are some sketches that show some of the most important and frequently used settings in the book.

What are the differences between what you imagined and what the author saw?

 Sykosa: Book Summary

Sykosa (that’s “sy”-as-in-”my” ko-sa) is a sixteen-year-old girl trying to reclaim her identity after an act of violence shatters her life and the life of her friends. This process is complicated by her best friend, Niko, a hyper-ambitious, type-A personality who has started to war with other girls for social supremacy of their school, a prestigious preparatory academy in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. To compensate, Sykosa has decided to fall in love with her new boyfriend, Tom, who was involved in the act of violence. Propelled by survivor guilt, an anxiety disorder, and her hunger for Tom and his charms, Sykosa attends a weekend-long, unchaperoned party at Niko’s posh vacation cottage, where she will finally confront Niko on their friendship, her indecision about her friends and their involvement in the act of violence, and she will make the biggest decision of her life — whether or not she wants to lose her virginity to Tom.

A cursed amber amulet unearthed in Pompeii flings Arcona into a past life of witchcraft, bloodshed, revenge, and sexual slavery to the cruel Master of a gladiatorial school. This violent parallel world is populated with “Slayers,” blood-drinking immortals devoted to the gods of war and mayhem.

As a Strix, or malignant witch, Arcona once used sex and blood rituals to create a race of immortal warriors to unleash on Rome. Now it’s time to pay.

The gladiator Tyr was one desperately lonely lover she betrayed. Against his will, she turned him into Upir Likhyi, a foul vampire. For two millennia he’s lived a grim existence as a Slayer, in constant sexual arousal yet denied release; now, he’s pissed off and wants revenge. He kidnaps Arcona, planning to drink her dry and break the curse.

Along the way Arcona and Tyr relive their sexual slavery at the hands of Rome and blood sport in the arena, but the real magic is they forgive and fall in love.

Too bad another Slayer wants them dead.
