We are really honoured to be joined today by Avery Flynn for today’s BBTT (Bewitching Book Tour Tuesdays). Avery took time out of her busy schedule to put together an amazing guest post about friendships in novels. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Here is an extract from the guest post:
“Like many authors, I write what I love to read. In my case that means fast-paced, steamy tales of suspense with a big dash of humor featuring a strong heroine who has friends. Not just the cardboard type of friends whose only purpose is to act as a sounding board for the heroine, but someone who is a significant part of the heroine’s life.
Beth Martinez, the heroine in A Dry Creek Bed, and Claire Layton have been best friends since were in the same Girl Scout troop in second grade. Where Beth is tall, cautious and hiding some deep family hurts, Claire is petite, impulsive and spends her time shocking her crazy family. While they may be different in many ways, they are alike in what matters – their devotion to each other.”

Kate recently read War Horse and gave it a full 5/5!
“The story about a horse named Joey and his relationship with Albert is a wonderful story. Set against the backdrop of World War 1 and life on the Narracott farm and then at various locations through the war this story immediately brought me in and wouldn’t let me put the book down until I had finished reading it. 5/5″

Kate recently read Virginia Woolf and gave it a full 5/5!
“I was captivated by this book. I didn’t know that Virginia suffered from ill health in the same way that I do, I didn’t know that she was a reviewer like me and what caught me completely off guard was the fact that her writing and reviews were for her an escape, a way to relive past memories and to do so safely and was based on those around her. I can completely relate to her on all of these levels and in some way following reading this biography I feel that in a way I am connected to Virginia. 5/5″

Kate recently read The Reader and gave it a full 5/5!
“ The story is so moving and I couldn’t stop reading it. I was in tears watching the film but the tears didn’t come. However I was so caught up in the book I was breathless at some points. The writing style was easy to follow, the fact that the chapters were very short made it very easy to read and the pages just flowed by.″

Kate recently read The New Girl and gave it an amazing 4.5/5!
“I think many people can relate to this story. The falling out with a friend, the one that steps in. I am sure many people could relate to the copycat behaviour and the attempt to steal everything from you, I know I can.
Mary writes in a style that makes you want to read more, to see if it all turns out ok in the end. She enables readers to feel empathy and yet agree with the message she is getting across. 4.5/5″

Guest Reviewer Pam recently read The Last Colonial: Curious Adventures & Stories from a Vanishing World and gave it a full 5/5!
“ A Very good read, and although it seems easy to put down because of its format, it is hard to do so once you have read the first story!″

Kate recently read Shadowland and gave it an amazing 4/5!
“Much better than Blue Moon but not as good as Evermore.
Shadowland is the third instalment of the Immortals series by Alyson Noel and I was keen to read this not only because I wanted to read more of this amazing series but I wanted it to be better than Blue Moon.
The characters keep getting better. Damen is, in my mind, one of the biggest book crushes people could have. He wants to make amends for his faults in the start of the book and this leads to a decision, which I was almost screaming at the book not to make. 4/5″

Kate recently read Naya Nuki: Shoshoni Girl Who Ran and gave it a full 5/5!
“After several trips to America and visiting some native tribes and learning a little about them, American History never fails to captivate me. When Baker Books sent me Naya Nuki I knew I had to read it.
The story about Naya Nuki who gets captured at 11 years of age by the Minnetare tribe and escapes and travels over 1000 miles back to her Shoshoni tribe is stunning. I think it’s safe to say that no 11 year old could do something like this.″

Kaitlin recently read Anathema and gave it an impressive 3/5!
“With two very large plot points, the novel had a very fast pace driving it. I found parts of the novel to be very predictable, but backstabbing abounds and it did keep me guessing until the end. There were quite a few surprises for even the most seasoned reader. 3/5″

Kate recently read Fallen In Love and gave it a full 5/5!
“I have been a massive fan of Lauren Kate since I stumbled across Fallen in 2010. Her fallen angel love story is one that I think will span the ages. When Random House contacted me about the possibility of getting an advance copy of Fallen In Love I completely and utterly jumped at the chance.
I love the way that Fallen In Love is written, four love stories colliding in a whirlwind Valentine’s Day Festival in Medieval England. Each of the four stories was stand alone and amazingly written.″
